Upstate interventional cardiologists employ cardiac catheterization to diagnose disorders of the coronary arteries, heart valves and heart muscle. Specially trained cardiac nurses and technicians work alongside physicians to deliver the best cardiac patient care.

The Cath Lab is conveniently located in the Upstate Heart and Vascular Center with an adjacent patient care area will hold seven beds to care for these patients in the preparatory and recovery phases for these procedures.

As an integral part of Upstate University Hospital's cardiovascular services, the Cath Lab serves all inpatient hospital units, outpatient populations and the emergency department to provide the best possible cardiac care for all patients. The laboratory staff are available 24 hours a day to handle elective and emergent procedures.

They may also provide for the definitive diagnosis of cardiac diseases. We are committed to continually upgrade and maintain our technology and medical education to offer the most advanced procedures for the best patient care.

Procedures performed include cardiac and interventional cathetierization

Proven extremely beneficial in treating blockages in the coronary arteries, interventional cardiology treatment procedures re-open diseased arteries that supply the heart with blood. They may be performed at the same time as the diagnostic cardiac catheterization.

Transradial Catheterization
Our interventional cardiologists excel at this technique, which accesses the coronary circulation through the arteries in the wrist. It generates less bleeding and discomfort and fewer complications than traditional approaches to catheterization.
